The 24-year-old was the subject of racist abuse by Lazio fans in midweek, but the Stadio San Paolo crowd gave the defender a warm reception as they fight back against racism
Huge swathes of Napoli supporters donned masks of Kalidou Koulibaly and held aloft pictures of the defender after he was racially abused by Lazio fans in their previous fixture.
Wednesday’s Serie A match against the Rome-based club was stopped for several minutes in the second half as a number of Lazio fans aimed racist chants at Koulibaly.
The game continued and Napoli saw out a 2-0 victory that kept them top of the table, but supporters’ group Quelli del Sangue Azzurro were keen to show their support for the Senegalese centre-back in Sunday’s match against Carpi.
Thus, the Stadio San Paolo was awash with pictures of Koulibaly proudly held aloft by the club’s fans ahead of kick-off as fans stood united against racism in the Italian game.
