The National Assembly has despatched the revised Electoral Act Amendment Bill to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent, Famzn News learnt on Monday.

The first model of the invoice was intially rejected by the President.

A National Assembly source disclosed to journalists in Abuja that the invoice was transmitted final week.

The source stated, β€œThe amended Electoral Act has been transmitted to Mr President since Monday last week. He has it now. The National Assembly is expecting him to quickly assent to it because of the deadline for such amendment ahead of the 2019 general elections.”


The National Assembly had on June 7, 2018 handed the revised model of the invoice, expunging the controversial clauses, together with the one which re-ordered normal elections sequence.

On June 7, 2018, whereas adopting the report by the Senate Committee on INEC, the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the session, famous that the controversial clauses within the invoice had been pulled out of the brand new model.

Ekweremadu stated, β€œBefore we go into the consideration, let me shortly make some fast clarifications. One is that after we handed the Electoral Act earlier within the yr, the President returned it with observations.

They may come up maybe some other time but for now, they are not part of this process. That has been removed to make the rest non-controversial.”

As acknowledged by Ekweremadu, the modification would improve the credibility of the 2019 normal elections. He additionally expressed the hope that INEC, politicians and the citizens would discover the amendments helpful.

β€œWe hope and believe that within a short period, the President will find it necessary to sign this bill into law,” he had stated.
