Federal lawmakers on Tuesday stated President Muhammadu Buhari have to be held accountable for the actions of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

This was a part of a five-point decision made at a Joint Executive Session of the National Assembly on Tuesday.

“The systematic harassment and humiliation by the Executive of perceived political opponents, people with contrary opinion, including legislators and judiciary, by the Police and other security agencies must stop,” Senate President Bukola Saraki learn.

“There have to be strict adherence to the Rule of Law and safety for all residents by the President and his appointees.

“The President have to be held accountable for the actions of his appointees and have to be able to sanction people who perform any act which is able to ridicule or endanger our nation and democracy.

“The government should show sincerity in the fight against corruption by not being selective, also prosecute current appointees that have cases pending against them.”

“We also hereby reaffirm our earlier resolution on the vote of no confidence on the Inspector General of Police, who does nothing but preside over innocent Nigerians with an outright disregard for the constitutional authority of both the executive and the legislature.”
