Nigeria’s broadcasting regulatory body has cautioned the Ekiti Radio for, according to it, being unprofessional and dangerously partisan in its reporting of the build-up to the governorship election in Ekiti state.
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) queried the station’s General Manager, Donald Olajide Falayi, for allegedly breaching Section 5.2.18 of the Broadcasting Code.
This was made known by the Commission’s Director General, Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, in a statement on Wednesday.
The NBC said the station consistently refused to balance its political programmes, often patronising the state Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and his party alone in breach of Section 7.6.8.
It said the station violated an NBC code by inciting citizens of Ekiti not to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari to the state.
The NBC chairman said, “We find this as a breach of Section 5.2.7 of the Code and 5.2.8. A broadcaster shall, in using political material for news, avoid taking inflammatory and divisive matter in its provocative form.”
