The A5 coupe has had a long life-cycle, as the second-gen will be launched exactly a decade after its predecessor.

According to a recent report published by larevueautomobile.com, the upcoming A5 will be unveiled either at the end of this year, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, or early 2017, at Detroit, before going on sale next spring.

It will be built on the, now familiar, MLB platform that will also be used on the upcoming Q5, too. The new architecture will provide more interior space and at the same time drop some weight - exactly what it was designed to do.

Stylistically, the 2018 Audi A5 will be very close to the new A4, with similar lights and an nearly identical design for the cabin. The engine lineup will also be shared, including the 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter diesels, the V6s and even a hybrid e-tron version.

As with the current premium coupe, the new BMW 4-Series Coupe and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe rival will also have an RS5 version, with approximately 500hp from a new twin-turbo V6, added to its line-up.

The second-gen A5 family will grow with the addition of the new replacements of the Cabriolet and Sportback four-door coupe that are expected to launch some time next year.
