Aston Villa's incoming owner Tony Jiantong Xia, who this week bought the Midlands club from American businessman Randy Lerner, is contemplating plans to rebrand Villa Park using his health food business 'Lotus Health' upon completion of his takeover.
The 39-year-old Chinaman wants an immediate return to the Premier League and believes changing the stadium name to 'Lotus Villa Park' would be benefitial for both his financial investments.
Although Xia is keen on revamping the name of Villa Park, which has been the club's home since 1897, he acknowledges the rich history that surrounds the Championship-bound team.
“One of the things we have thought about is using the Lotus Health name to rebrand Villa Park. Villa Park is a very historical stadium, so we will not simply and callously destroy a club’s history," he told the Beijing Times.
“We want to use Villa’s history and its substantial fan base around the world to also promote Lotus Health products and services globally. The ideal scenario would be for fans to enjoy Lotus Health products at Lotus Villa Park, it would be a great advert for both brands.”
Xia arrives at Villa following a catastrophic season, which resulted in a bottom-place finish and relegation from the Premier League, ending their long stay in England's top division.
