Alan Shearer believes Newcastle United fans have been ‘starved’ of an FA Cup run for too long but Rafa Benitez could be about to change that.

The club legend is hopeful that Benitez can mastermind victory over Chelsea tomorrow and guide the Magpies into the Fifth Round of the competition.

United travel to Stamford Bridge looking to progress past the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2005-06 when they reached the quarterfinals.

And Shearer feels that over the last 12 years United fans have missed out on the magic of the FA Cup.

Speaking to Coral he said: “Newcastle have been starved of an FA Cup run over previous years because previous managers have not paid attention to the FA Cup and played weaker teams and it hasn’t been that big of a deal for previous managers.

“But for the fans the FA Cup means a hell of a lot.”

Watch the video to hear what else Shearer says about the clash against Chelsea and his hope for an FA Cup run.
