Newcastle United are wanting to bring Mehdi Abeid back to St James’ Park this summer according to reports in France. French media outlet L’Equipe reports that Rafa Benitez is looking at the 24-year-old as a potential choice to bolster his squad prior to the Premier League season. Abeid spent four years on Tyneside before leaving for Panathinaikos in 2015 where he tasted not only first team football but also Champions League action. Signing permanently for the Greek outfit in August 2015, he was released on a free after only twelve months, heading back to France and signing a three-year contract with Dijon FCO. He’s played thirty times season however has not been able to hit the net but nonetheless has still impress, hence interest from Premier League clubs. On the prospect of moving back to United, Abeid is quoting as saying: “I’m very attached to Dijon and their project, but I’m not closing any door.” But Dijion are rumored to be in a poor monetary state which means Abeid could be available for a bargain deal. Abeid only played thirteen times for United after making his full ninety minute debut against Liverpool in 2014.
