Newcastle United are ready to offer Sean Longstaff a new professional contract after a season of progress.

The 19-year-old has impressed for both the Under-23s and in the Scottish Premiership with Kilmarnock this term.

Midfield man Longstaff bagged six goals and made three assists before United made the decision to send him to Rugby Park on loan in order to taste first team football.

Since then Longstaff has scored three goals in the Kilmarnock first team and ended the season against Ross County over the weekend.

United aim to give Longstaff a new contract then loan him back out next season.

And there is plenty of interest in the youngster with Kilmarnock interested in taking him back plus a clutch of League One clubs eager to give him a chance next season.

Bury are keen to sign Longstaff next season with interest from the Shakers high after Lee Clark agreed the original deal that took the Geordie youngster to Kilmarnock.

The Magpies will start pre-season with Longstaff back at their Benton base with Fred Woodman’s deal now over and winger Cal Roberts also set to return.

However, all three youngsters are likely to be sent back out on temporary deals.
