With Honda bringing their new Civic hatchback prototype to this year's Geneva Motor Show, getting to see that car wearing a Type R "costume" was simply a matter of time.

The company has already shown us their next-gen Civic Type R turbo lag-free engine the previous month. We expect to see some solid specs seen as how the competition has gotten tons tougher in this segment after Ford launched the Focus RS.

Right now, the current-gen Type R comes with 310 PS, 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque and an official 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 5.7 seconds - exactly another slower than the Focus RS.

Once in production, the 2017 Type R will go up against not just the Ford, however, lots of other rivals such as the VW Golf R and the Peugeot 308 GTi.The all-new Type R will also be sold globally, which means that it will also make its way into the US, where Honda fans had long since been deprived of owning the hottest of Civics.
