There are indications that new Super Eagles gaffer, Sunday Oliseh and the nation’s soccer governing body, NFF would not be on the same page when he releases his list of invited players for the AFCON qualifier against Tanzania next week.
While Oliseh wants to call up 18 foreign-based pros alongside five home lads, the NFF wants him to accommodate more home boys.
According to a source, a top NFF official yesterday disclosed that the soccer federation would want to see more home based players in the squad that would face Tanzania.
“Oliseh wants to list 18 professionals from overseas for the match in Tanzania, while five places will be left for the players in the local league. But we may request that he increase the number of the players from the local league,” a top official informed my source.
The foreign-based pros were expected to fly directly to Tanzania, where they will join up with the coaches and the players from the league.
The Eagles training camp is expected to open on Sunday, August 16, in Abuja with players from the domestic league. The players who impress in this training camp will make the final squad to Tanzania.
On Wednesday, NFF technical committee chairman Felix Anyansi-Agwu confirmed Africanfootball.com Exclusive that Oliseh, who has been in Europe monitoring and meeting with the country’s top stars, will arrive Nigeria on August 14.
