Presidential aspirants in Nigeria have started showing off their physical fitness ahead of the 2019 general election in the West African country.
Famzn News had reported earlier that President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress trekked for over 800 metres from the prayer ground to his residence amidst chanting of ‘Sai Baba’ by well-wishers on Tuesday, August 21.
Last week, Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto state, had alleged that Buhari was “too old” to lead the country beyond 2019.
Responding on Tuesday, Garba Shehu said the trekking by the President was a positive response to Tambuwal’s diatribe.
“I think the president has done one thing today – that the issue is not how old one is but how fit he is; how healthy he is. Now that the president has proven his fitness and well-being to continue in office is a settled matter”, Shehu had said on Tuesday.

Apparently displeased with Shehu’s statement, Nigerians, including chieftains of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took to micro-blogging site, Twitter, to condemn the statement.
On Wednesday, August 22, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar revealed that he regularly jogged over a mile, while sharing a photo of himself on a treadmill.
The Wazirin Adamawa said he jogged more than a mile and did not make noise about it in what appears to be a direct attack on the Presidency.
“I regularly jog more than a mile & exercise, but it will be pedestrian of me to ask Nigerians to vote for me because of that.
“I want my party – the PDP, and Nigerians, to vote for me because I WORK not because I WALK. I will work to create jobs. I won’t walk to create an illusion,” Abubakar posted on Twitter.

Like the former Vice President, another presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore shared photos of himself participating in the New York City Marathon in 2017, a race he allegedly completed in four hours.
