Simi Addresses Old Tweets Amidst Rape Culture Debate
Nigerian singer Simi has broken her silence following the recent resurfacing of past tweets that have ignited widespread social media criticism, particularly in light of her public advocacy against rape culture and the ongoing Mirabel rape allegation controversy.

The backlash erupted amidst heightened online scrutiny, especially following Simiβs vocal stance against rape culture. A selection of her older tweets was unearthed and widely shared online, leading to intense discussions and condemnation from numerous users.
Simi addressed the issue, emphasising that the tweets in question were written 14 years ago when she was 23. At the time, she was working to build her music career while assisting at her motherβs childcare facility. She asserted that these posts were innocent reflections of her daily life and not indicative of anything perverse.
She vehemently stressed that her words had been twisted to construct false narratives, reiterating that she has never held depraved views. The artist also commented on how her current fame now exposes her past actions to broad interpretation. She clarified that she never intended to conceal her personality or the fact that she was a young woman openly expressing herself.
Simi further revealed that some of her older tweets were being deleted by her team due to sensitivity for her family, although she had initially been hesitant to remove them herself.
