Nigerians in Diaspora CommisisionNigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has said he did not receive any correspondence from Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) East China, asking for its members to be evacuated from that nation because of the coronavirus epidemic.

NIDCOM denied this in a recent statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun its Head of Media and Public Relations Unit.

According to the commission, every report saying a letter has been sent for evacuation is not correct even if it is circulating on social media.

Abdur-Rahman added that NIDCOM has been in constant touch with the Nigerian Students Association in Wuhan (NSAW) and they intend to keep collaborating with the Minister of Foreign Affairs to talk about the next step to be taken.

His words, β€œOur attention has been drawn to a statement on various social media platforms allegedly from the Nigerians in the Diaspora Organization (East China) claiming it had written a letter to Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) requesting to be evacuated in the face of the dreaded coronavirus ravaging the people living in China.

β€œWe must say, however, that NIDCOM did not receive any correspondence from NIDO East China however, saw it on different social media outlets.

β€œHowever, we've been in constant touch with the Nigerian Students Association in Wuhan (NSAW) whose President is Okoye Chiamaka and Vandi Kamaunji (Secretary General), several Nigerians resident in China as well as our Mission in Beijing.

β€œAll communication and suggestions we've received so far have been forwarded to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who will take appropriate decisions.

β€œNIDCOM will continue to co-ordinate with the ministry and the mission in Beijing as it awaits further instructions as directed by the Hon. Minister in this particular situation.”
