Nigeria's N-Gas today threatened to reduce by 70 percent its gas supplies to Ghana's main power generation company, Volta River Authority (VRA), if it fails to honour it's debt obligation of $82 million.
βThis disclosure was made by the West African Pipeline Company (WAPCo).
As stated by Walter Perez, if the supply is cut tomorrow, it would lead to an βugly situationβ for power generation in Ghana.
The VRA is stated to owe N-Gas more than $182 million and the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) about $150 million, a situation which is stated to be crippling the operations of the two companies.
Ghana has a deal with Nigeria to receive a contractual 120 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) of gas daily. The government of Ghana has in the past held several discussions with Nigeria over the payment of its long-standing debt.
