Nine members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, also called Shiites, have been arrested by police in Kaduna over the killing of a policeman on Thursday within the state.

Famzn News reported that members of the group brutally killed a police personnel as they renewed their protest in opposition to the continued detention of their chief, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The protest came about shortly after El-zakzaky and his spouse, appeared earlier than the Kaduna State High Court.

El-Zakzaky has been in detention since his arrest by operatives of the DSS in December 2015.

He was arrested following a conflict between followers of his group and troopers within the convoy of the Chief of Army State, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, in Zaria, Kaduna state.

The cleric and his spouse had been arraigned on Thursday by the state authorities on eight counts bordering on alleged culpable murder, illegal meeting, disturbance of public peace amongst different allegations.

Commissioner of Police within the state, Austin Iwar, mentioned the command had deployed males from its intelligence unit to path the leaders and coordinators of the assault.

“The command needs to tell most people that once more, on the June 21, 2018, at about 10:00 hours, the violent members of the proscribed IMN popularly check with as Shiite, armed with weapons, knives and Improvised Explosive Devises (IEDs) violently attacked each police officer on sight, throughout which they brutally killed a police officer and injured a number of others,” Aliyu mentioned.
