A nine-year-old boy identified as Jamel Myles had on Monday committed suicide after he told his classmates he was gay.
It was gathered that the boy, a fourth grader at Joe Shoemaker Elementary School, was bullied by his classmates after he told them about his s3xuality.
His mother, Leia Pierce revealed to KDVR-TV that he told her about his s3xuality before he opened up to his peers who advised him to take his life.
Pierce said, βAnd he looked so scared when he told me. He was like, βMom Iβm gay.β And I thought he was playing, so I looked back because I was driving, and he was all curled up, so scared. And I said, βI still love you.β
βHe was gonna tell people heβs gay because heβs proud of himself,β she added.
The bereaved mother said it took her son βfour daysβ to take his own life
She said, βMy son told my oldest daughter the kids at school told him to kill himself. Iβm just sad he didnβt come to me.β
The mother who found her son dead on Thursday in their Denver-area home suggests bullying as major reason for his suicide.
She claimed that the nine-year-old was also trying to adjust to his newly-found s3xuality, adding that he told her heβd rather dress like a girl.
βI know you buy me boy stuff because Iβm a boy, but Iβd rather dress like a girl,β Pierce said.
The mother says she would be playing a major role in making schools more accomodating to homos3xual children.
