A nine-year-old boy identified as Jamel Myles had on Monday committed suicide after he told his classmates he was gay.
It was gathered that the boy, a fourth grader at Joe Shoemaker Elementary School, was bullied by his classmates after he told them about his s3xuality.
His mother, Leia Pierce revealed to KDVR-TV that he told her about his s3xuality before he opened up to his peers who advised him to take his life.
Pierce said, “And he looked so scared when he told me. He was like, ‘Mom I’m gay.’ And I thought he was playing, so I looked back because I was driving, and he was all curled up, so scared. And I said, ‘I still love you.”
“He was gonna tell people he’s gay because he’s proud of himself,” she added.
The bereaved mother said it took her son “four days” to take his own life
She said, “My son told my oldest daughter the kids at school told him to kill himself. I’m just sad he didn’t come to me.”
The mother who found her son dead on Thursday in their Denver-area home suggests bullying as major reason for his suicide.
She claimed that the nine-year-old was also trying to adjust to his newly-found s3xuality, adding that he told her he’d rather dress like a girl.
“I know you buy me boy stuff because I’m a boy, but I’d rather dress like a girl,” Pierce said.
The mother says she would be playing a major role in making schools more accomodating to homos3xual children.
