While the brand announced the introduction of an improved Leaf, with a longer range, the previous versions have been subjected to a recall.

Nissan North America has issued a campaign due to the relay inside the electronic brake booster, which may freeze, requiring the driver to "exert more effort to slow the vehicle down", as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) explains.

If the brake relay fails, then the car will travel for longer distances before coming to a stop, increasing the risk of a crash and injury. The manufacturer hasn’t announced whether any reports were received related to this condition.

There are a total of 46,859 vehicles affected by this condition in North America, from the 2013 to 2015 model years, which have been manufactured between November 19, 2012, to July 31, 2015, affected by this issue.

Nissan will notify owners of the affected vehicles and its dealers will do the necessary repairs, free of charge. In this case, the Intelligent Brake Control Unit software will be reprogrammed.

The company hasn’t provided a notification schedule yet, however, owners can contact Nissan Customer Service at 1-800-647-7261 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
