Nissan is bringing four custom Nissan New Mobility Concepts (NNMC) to the Big Apple for a series of events surrounding the 2016 New York International Auto Show.
As you may remember, a fleet of NNMC vehicles are already in use in San Francisco, courtesy of Scoot Networks, researching the future of transportation and congestion.
Measuring 2.3 meters (92 inches) in length, the Renault Twizy-based vehicles are about the size of four-tenths of the all-new Nissan TITAN XD pick-up, being developed in reaction to the increasing use of automobiles for short-distance trips by up to two people – the so called “last mile” transit.
"As large cities continue to grow into megacities globally, we need to better understand how transportation is changing and anticipate what transportation needs will look like in the future. With the fast-paced growth of smart technologies and the emergence of the sharing economy, we're studying how this size and package of electric vehicle fits in real life customer situations," said Rachel Nguyen, director, Nissan Future Lab.
The major benefit is of course the vehicle’s “eco-friendly” nature, helping reduce pollution in the city. Parking is also a perk, with three NNMCs able to fit head-in into one parking space.
Before being officially presented at the New York International Auto Show, the models will be used for demonstration purposes in New York city, sporting different wraps with the hashtag #NissanFutureLab.
Don’t expect anything different from the Twizy though, as the NNMC automobiles come with an 17 HP electric motor, capable of cradling two people for 40 miles (64.3 km) with a top speed of 25 mph (40 km/h).
