After the official reveal of the 2017 GT-R, watch Nissan's chief engineer discussing the philosophy behind the last version of the R35.

Hiroshi Tamura is the man responsible for one of the most significant performance icons in the last decade. He explains to Motor Trend how his personal R32 GT-R helped him understand the ethos of Nissan’s sports flagship, following a step-by-step process into making it a 600hp machine.

The latest R35 GT-R represents perhaps the biggest step forward since its original debut back in 2007. Power has been increased by 20hp for a total of 565hp with Nissan installing a new titanium exhaust system.

The outside changes are subtle but they do make the new GT-R look fresher with Nissan focusing on improving the cabin. The revised dashboard now has just 11 switches, down from 27 of the previous model and a new eight-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.

The paddle shifters are now mounted on the steering wheel for more comfortable use in the corners while Nissan upgraded the quality of the materials used to make their weapon feel and look much more upmarket.

Overall, the new 2017 Nissan GT-R is one of the big stars of the New York Auto Show, if not the biggest.
