2015 hit Nollywood movie “Fifty” which broke box office records and had lots of people talking, is coming back to screens as a TV series.
The Box Office Smash Hit from EbonyLife Films, which has grossed over 400m, will this week close its remarkable 4-month cinema run in Nigeria.
“Fifty” has enjoyed rave reviews and international acclaim since it was first screened at The BFI London Film Festival 2015 including BBC, CNN, Vogue, and Essence and other national online and print titles.
The success of the movie has spawned a television series, the movie executives announced that they would extend the movie’s success onto the small screen.
The TV show will continue the premise that the movie set up – a week in the lives of 4 African Women approaching the golden age of ‘Fifty’. Details of whether the lead characters will reprise their film roles will be revealed in due course.
The movie “Fifty” stars Omoni Oboli, Ireti Doyle, Dakore Egbuson, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Emmnuel Ikubese, Kemi Lala Akindoju, among others.
Fifty captures a few pivotal days in the lives of four Nigerian women at the pinnacle of their careers. Meet Tola, Elizabeth, Maria and Kate four friends forced at midlife to take inventory of their personal lives, while juggling careers and family against the sprawling backdrops of the upper middle-class neighbourhoods of Ikoyi and Victoria Island in Lagos.
Tola is a reality TV star whose marriage to lawyer Kunle never stood a chance thanks to an invidious family secret.
Elizabeth is a celebrated obstetrician whose penchant for younger men has estranged her from her daughter.
Forty-nine year old Maria has an affair with a married man that results in an unexpected pregnancy and Kate’s battle with a life-threatening illness has plunged her into religious obsession.
Executive produced by MO Abudu, directed by Biyi Bandele, “Fifty” was produced by Tope Oshin Ogun, with Malcom McLean as director of photography.
