The winger was stretchered off during West Brom's win over Crystal Palace with a knee injury and will play no part in Michael O'Neil's side's first major tournament in 30 years
Northern Ireland's Chris Brunt has been ruled out of this summer's European Championships after undergoing surgery on a knee ligament injury.
The winger was stretchered off during West Brom's 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace, and after scans the Baggies have confirmed the 31-year-old has ruptured his anterior knee ligament and will be out for six months.
And West Brom manager Tony Pulis has offered his condolences to Brunt - who has earned 54 caps for his country - after confirmation he would miss the tournament in France.
"It’s a big blow for Chris and everyone is feeling for him right now," he told the club's official website.
"It will be disappointing for us not to have him for the rest of the season because he is a terrific player who gives the team great balance.
"But obviously it is made even more cruel because it has denied him a career highlight with Northern Ireland this summer."
Team-mate Jonas Olsson also admitted he felt for the midfielder as he looked forward to playing in a major tournament for the first time.
"It is a shattered dream for him not to be able to represent his country in the Euros," he told reporters. "You feel for him as a team-mate and as a friend.
"I have been playing with him for eight years. It is the first summer really when he was looking forward to something else other than a vacation.
"I just hope he gets back fit and maybe he is there for the next championship [the 2018 World Cup in Russia]. Hopefully there is more to come from him."
Brunt played a key role in Michael O'Neil's side's qualification for a first major tournament in 30 years having started eight of their ten qualifying matches in Group F.
