Barcelona have announced that Marc Bartra will leave the club this summer, confirming that the defender is set to join Borussia Dortmund.

The 25-year-old joins Dani Alves in exiting Camp Nou, with Javier Mascherano also linked with a move away from Catalonia in recent weeks.

Despite earlier protestations from sporting director Robert Fernandez that he would not be allowed to leave, Barca have revealed that Dortmund plan to activate Bartra's release clause.

A statement from the Blaugrana read: "FC Barcelona announce that German club Borussia Dortmund have informed them of their desire to activate the buy out clause for the player Marc Bartra, according to which the Club is obliged to facilitate the transfer of the player for the price of 8 million euros.

"Marc Bartra arrived at the Club at the age of 12 and is a fine representative of the values embodied by la Masia, both as a player and as a person.

"The defender has spent more than half his life at FC Barcelona and with the first team he won five league titles, two Champions Leagues, two Copa del Rey, two European Super Cups, two Spanish Super Cups and one Club World Cup.

The defender has made 103 professional appearances for Barcelona since his debut on February 14 2010 against Atletico Madrid.
