Sunderland have completed the signing of Chelsea defender Papy Djilobodji for £8m on a four-year deal.
Djilobodji, who joined Chelsea from Nantes in 2015, failed to make a single Premier League appearance for the club before being loaned out to Werder Bremen in January.
The Senegal international leaves the Blues after making just one appearance in the Capital One Cup to become David Moyes' first signing as Sunderland manager.
Djilobodji began his career in his native Senegal with ASC Saloum before joining Nantes in 2010 after a short stint with French minnows US Senart Moissy.
The 27-year-old went on to make over 150 appearances in all competitions with Nantes before securing a switch to Chelsea for a fee believed to be in the region of £2.7m.
Djilobodji, brought in after Chelsea failed to land Everton's John Stones last summer, made his debut for the west Londoners in their 4-1 win over Walsall in the League Cup in September.
But after failing to make a breakthrough into the first-team setup Djilobodji joined Werder for the remainder of the 2015/16 season and played a key role in helping them avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.
The centre-back scored a last-gasp winner as Werder beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 on the last day of the season to maintain their spot in the German top flight.
