If horsepower per buck is your main criteria when buying an automobile, then look no further than to a Lebanon Ohio Ford dealer who will sell you a 727-horspower Mustang for just $39,995.
Compared to this beast, even the sixth-gen GT350 Mustang seems underpowered, as the dealer is offering a significantly uprated car with a Phase 2 Roush supercharger mated to its stock 435 HP, 5.0-litre V8. But how can this machine pack so much punch and still be $40,000 cheaper than Ford’s aforementioned Flat Plane Crank 526 HP V8 GT350, and $20,000 cheaper than a 707 HP, 6.2-litre HEMI Hellcat?
Simple, according to The Drive, Roush parts manager Charlie Watson said that the car is part of a decision they made “to focus on establishing a nationwide base of enthusiasts rather than making huge profits on each car."
So, by taking a $32,395 Mustang GT, and $7,549.99 worth of Roush components – mixing it a little with labor costs – Lebanon Ford still manages to make a small profit and sell the car for less than $40k (albeit some discounts have probably found their way in the recipe).
No matter, the final result is a ridiculously low-priced muscle car, covered by a three-year, 30,000-mile warranty, but Watson said most of the customers don’t stop at the base price, many going for $45,000-$50,000, while some even reaching the $60,000 mark. Everything can be commissioned if your pockets are deep enough, from custom wheels, to a full Roush body-kit, bigger brakes and strong half-shafts.
The best part? The vehicles aren’t even sold out, with the dealer having sold just 24 models.
