The head of the Argentine Olympic Committee slammed the disorganisation in the Argentine Football Association, warning that the chaos could even lead to withdrawal from the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro.
Just days before the final list of 18 players is due to be handed in for the tournament, the crisis-ridden AFA is still far short of making up that number.
Stars like Paulo Dybala, Ramiro Funes Mori and Matias Kranevitter were included on the shortlist only to see their clubs refuse to release them.
And Argentine Olympic Committee (COA) chief Gerardo Werthein stated the situation was extremely worrying, with the FA rudderless following Luis Segura's resignation from the presidency.
"What is happening with the national team is down to what is happening in the AFA, an entity which is a shambles, abandoned, with nobody who can fix it," the official fumed to Radio Mitre.
When asked about the team's chances of playing in Brazil, Werthein stated that at the current time it was "50-50".
"The chance [of withdrawal] would be higher if we left it in the hands of the AFA, but since we have intervened in the issue the chance is much lower," he said, revealing he had asked local clubs for help in putting together a team.
The Olympics chief also criticised coach Gerard Martino, whom he accused of being too passive in chasing the best players.
"He has undoubtedly had a rather passive attitude," he said.
"We have called for Tata to pull his finger out and see how we can make a team with the club presidents, because not having the players less than 30 days from the tournament is unthinkable."
Argentina, who won the Olympic gold medal in 2004 and 2008 before failing to qualify for the London games, are scheduled to face Portugal, Algeria and Honduras in Group D, with the first clash against the Lusitanian side on August 4....
