Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has pleaded with all youth of Nigeria to call off the ongoing protests to prevent hijacking by some thugs and lawlessness groups of people.
The Ooni of Ife said this during his extensive chat with previous President Olusegun Obasanjo. According to him, he admires the way and manner the youth have carried themselves throughout the protest as it reveals they are patriotic and honourable and responsible citizens who seek the betterment of the state.
βIf you look at the #EndSARS protest, you will see that our youths have what it takes to rule the country. Since day one, they have shown leadership, accountability and huge sense of responsibility which have sent a clear message to the government.
βEvery day at 11:50 pm, they displayed their financial update, and to me, Iβm highly amazed with their sense of accountability. As a youth leader myself, I'm proud that we all have communicated our ideas and it's heartwarming that we've been heard.
βDear youths, it's time to retreat so as to prevent those with ulterior motives from hijacking the peaceful message of peace. The whole world is aware of our peaceful conduct and we must not let some bad elements tarnish this enviable integrity.
βOnce again, I wish to urge our youths to stop the protest, for now, and give peace a chance. This will prevent government from using force,β
He condemned the attacks launched on Governor Gboyega Oyetolaβs convoy by some thugs at the #EndSARS protest in Osogbo, saying;
βIt's sad and we can't but condemn it, as it's against the ethos of βOmoluabiβ for which we're known in Osun.
βSimilarly, I want to commend Mr. Governor for the maturity which he has displayed in the handling of this sensitive issue, notwithstanding the provocation.
βIt reveals him as a father that he is. May God continue to protect him,β
