Fans of Afrobeat music legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti were treated to dazzling performances as music crooners Oritse Femi, Honeyland Secondary School Orchestra Band, Dr. Little and a host of other up-and-coming artistes wowed the crowd at the just concluded Afrobeat Party held at the instance of a collaboration between Streetwise Media and Regal Dry Gin from the stable of Grand Oak Limited.

The two-day event commemorating the life of Fela marked the eighteenth year anniversary of his death and witnessed a large turnout of fans at the New Africa Shrine Ikeja.

Consumers who graced the show expressed excitement at the show and commended the organizers for remembering and celebrating the great icon.

One of the consumers who identified himself as Kabiru Hassan lauded the continued support of Regal and celebration of Fela noting that such support would serve as good reminder for young Nigerians who never knew the Afrobeat maestro and the values he stood for while he was alive.

Besides, distributors also spoke glowingly about Regal Dry Gin and the Fela brand saying it was a good partnership worthy of commendation.

A distributor, Mr. Olagoke Oluwafemi who also graced the show of his own accord enthused how that partnership had worked for the Regal Dry Gin brand.

He said “This event has been of tremendous blessing to the brand. Over the years, we have seen both consumers and retailers show more interest in the brand because of its connection to someone iconic”.

Also speaking at the event, Grand Oak Limited’s Senior Brand Manager, Mainstream Brands, Mr. Olufemi Afolabi Falomo stated the initiative was borne out of the need to celebrate the icon for the immense role he played in raising political consciousness and providing enjoyment for Nigerians.

He said: “Fela is someone we all know and an icon we all respect. Therefore, Regal Dry gin in partnership with Streetswise decided to come up with Afrobeat party in a way to remember the death of Fela. We have been doing it for the past three years and we hope to continue to create more buzz and fun around it.”

Asked what impact the event has had on the Fela brand and regal Dry Gin, Falomo stated the event remains a good reminder of Fela’s ideals and the overwhelming love his music enjoyed and still enjoys across all strata of the society”. He added that “People are happy that we remember the death of Fela. The feedback so far has been amazingly positive”.

“Fela was a friend of the people, loved by the people, and the same goes with Regal Dry Gin which is a brand of the people and loved by the people. As our payoff indicates, Regal is determined to create enjoyment for the people”.

“Even though an annual celebration such as Felabration has been on, we hope to catch up and exceed what other events do to memorialize the life of Fela,” Falomo concluded.
