No fewer than 112 Internally Displaced Children separated from their families by Boko Haram, who were sheltered at the International Christian Centre (ICC), Uhogua community in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, were yesterday reunited with 49 families.
In an emotionally-laden ceremony in Benin, Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who hosted the parents and children to a launch at the Banquet Hall, Government House, urged the military to intensify efforts to end insurgency in the northern part of the country for families to come together.
Expresseing confidence in the Buhari-led administration’s efforts in tackling the Boko Haram menace, the governor urged Nigerians to be their brothers' keepers irrespective of tribe, religion or creed.
One of the parents, Ali Yakubu from Gworza Local Government Area of Borno State who have four children at the camp, stated he was lucky to be alive and see them, adding that he lost all his siblings to Boko Haram.
Also speaking, Justina Ali, a victim, thanked Oshiomhole and Pastor Solomon Folorunsho for taking care of them at the camp.
Similarly, Lukas Saidu, a parent, also thanked the governor for making Edo a home for the displaced persons and commended Oshiomhole for championing what he stated was a true spirit of one Nigeria.
The governor had last week Tuesday visited the camp and promised to build more classrooms and accommodation for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
He donated a trailer-load of rice and other food items.
