All Progressives Congress (APC) nationwide chairman John Odigie-Oyegun

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, has withdrawn from the race for the party’s nationwide chairmanship.

Odigie-Oyegun made this recognized to journalists at his Abuja residence on Friday.

Ahead of the APC National Convention scheduled to happen on June 23, he defined that his intention to not contest for a second tenure was within the curiosity of the party.

The APC chairman also said that contesting for a second tenure might throw up contentious points within the party, says such wouldn't augur effectively for the party in 2019.

He, nonetheless, admitted that the party is confronted with troublesome challenges forward of the final elections.

He stated: “Even though I had the desire to re-contest as National Chairman of the Party, I have decided that it is ultimately in the best interest of the party for me to withdraw from the race.”

With the withdrawal of Oyegun from the APC chairmanship race, former governor of Edo State Adams Oshiomhole stays the one candidate for the workplace.

Spokesperson of the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, had disclosed in April that Odigie-Oyegun would search re-election on the party’s National Convention.
