One of the foremost technical organisers of the international road race, Walter Abmayr, has been hooked by Pamodzi Sports Marketing Nigeria Limited for this year’s IAAF Okpekpe 10km Road Race.

Abmayr, who will serve as the technical organiser and Elite Athlete Manager for the fourth edition of the race, which holds on May 7 in Okpekpe, near Auchi in Edo State, agreed to join the train after meeting with Padmozi officials last weekend at the one-day IAAF seminar for labelled road races and the 2016 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships.

According to Okpekpe Road Race spokesman, Dare Esan, Abmayr has been mandated to ensure not only a perfect and flawless organisation of this year’s race but also to ensure the race gets the desired silver-label status for next year.

“Pamodzi and Mr. Abmayr have formalised an agreement that will see Abmayr take control of the technical organisation of the race, as well as being in-charge of the elite athletes management, which includes elite athletes recruitment, their travel and accommodation in Nigeria,” Esan said.

Esan revealed that Abmayr “was in charge of the technical organisation of the International University 10km road race in Heidelberg, Germany from 1987 to 2000, the gold-labelled Singapore international marathon (2008-2010) and the Lattelecom Riga Marathon, which he has been in charge of its technical organisation since 2013 till date.

“He is also a consultant to Athletics Association of Thailand”

Esan revealed that this year’s race would be used to promote cancer awareness among rural women in Okpekpe and its environs.
