The manager has slammed the former centre-back, and claims that his club loyalties have blinded him to an unacceptable piece of gamesmanship
Alan Pardew has hit out at Jamie Carragher's defence of Christian Benteke's controversial penalty that helped Liverpool to a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace earlier in March.
The former Reds defender had jumped to the striker's defence, despite him appearing to go to ground too easily, declaring "Liverpool player don't dive".
However, the television pundit's comments have earned the wrath of Palace boss Pardew, who says club loyalties cannot be twisted to abide cheating in the game.
"What annoyed me most were Jamie Carragher’s strong comments after the game stating that Christian Benteke was right to go down and win the penalty," the 54-year-old wrote in Palace's matchday notes for Saturday's 1-0 loss to Leicester City.
“I couldn’t disagree more with those sentiments and it is a shame that so many former and current players share his opinion that diving is a valid tactic.
“Would Carragher have had the same opinion if Wilf [Wilfried Zaha] had gone down in the box in the 94th minute of a massive game at Anfield?
"I suspect not, but loyalties can blur opinions at times.”
