Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on Lyon winger Rachid Ghezzal, whose contract expires in 2017.
Ghezzal’s form has been one of the chief reasons behind Lyon’s explosion of form in the second half of the Ligue 1 season, which has ensured them Champions League football next term. In 28 league outings, he has scored eight goals and assisted seven more.
Such form has piqued the interest of the champions and has put Ghezzal in a strong negotiating position with regards his contract. Currently he is paid in the region of €20,000 per month but he is holding out for 10 times that amount.
Lyon believe his demands are unreasonable and negotiations over a new deal have so far stalled, though president Jean-Michel Aulas is set to meet the player now that European football next season is secured.
Nevertheless, the 24-year-old’s agent has been in Qatar to speak with Cheikh Tamim ben Hammad Al Thani, owner of PSG, and while Ghezzal’s future was not the primary topic of conversation, it was raised.
Liverpool, Arsenal, Crystal Palace and West Ham are also monitoring the situation.
The player, however, wants to stay at Lyon next season because of the attraction of Champions League football. Moreover, Lyon want to cut their payroll by offloading one or two big names, and that could free up some money to pay Ghezzal.
Both parties want the attacker to remain at Parc OL, but must now reach an agreement.
