The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially handed over the party’s structure to Governor Samuel Ortom ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The party leadership took this decision at an expanded caucus meeting held in Makurdi on Monday, which had in attendance Ortom, immediate paste Senate President, David Mark, former governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam, Barnabas Gemade and a host of others.
Speaking during the meeting, the state PDP chairman, John Ngbede, said the governor is now the leader of the party in Benue State.
Ngbede said: “There is no more Ortom PDP, there is no more David Mark PDP, there is no more Gemade PDP, there is no more Suswam PDP, there is no more Iyorchia Ayu PDP… PDP is now one under the leadership of the executive Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom.”
The development was also confirmed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Tahav Argezua.
He said: “PDP leaders handover the party structure to Governor Ortom and make him official leader as they mandate him to restructure to accommodate all interests.
“Meeting currently ongoing at Banquet Hall of Benue Peoples House.”
