Manuel Pellegrini has talked up his record as Manchester City manager, insisting his legacy will be a culture of attractive football at the Etihad Stadium.
Pellegrini won the Premier League title and the League Cup in his first season in charge at the club, but has presided over two testing campaigns since then and is not yet assured of a place in next season's Champions League.
He added a second League Cup to his trophy haul in February and has taken City to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time, but the club's league form has sparked criticism from a number of supporters, and the vast majority of the Etihad crowd had left long before he took to the pitch to say his goodbyes after Sunday's clash with Arsenal.
But sitting in front of the media for his final press conference at the Etihad Campus on Thursday, the Chilean defended his final campaign and was keen to point out what he has achieved during his three-year reign.
"Of course, I think it’s a successful season, for a lot of reasons," he said. "Firstly because we won a title, secondly because we also reached the semi-final of the Champions League for the first time in the history of this club. The third thing is because in the three seasons we are always in the spot of Champions League, the fourth thing because it was a very difficult season, especially after February when we were involved in all the competitions."
"We accepted that we couldn’t play in the FA Cup, because it was impossible for our team to play in that moment, but it’s a good season."
Pellegrini's three trophies make him more successful than any other manager during his time in England, with both Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho winning two and Claudio Ranieri winning one.
And while the Chilean's outlook on life means he always expects to do more, he is clearly satisfied with his his work.
"I always think we can do it better, but the important thing is also to compare with all the other teams.
"If we make the summary of the three seasons that I was in charge here: we were the team that had more points, we were the team that has the better performance as a manager, in the three season we are always the team that scores more goals, the only thing that we couldn’t have as the best was our defence, that was Chelsea with just four goals, just four goals less than our team.
"The goal difference is huge with all the other teams. It’s very important to be the most scoring team in three seasons, to be always in Champions League and winning three titles. I’m happy but as I always say you must always think you can do it better."
Ahead of his final home match one week ago, Pellegrini laughed off questions about his legacy and how he would like to be remembered, pointing out "I am not dying!".
But as he prepares to hand over the reins to Pep Guardiola, he shed some light on how he thinks he has made his mark in Manchester.
"As a team that always want to play good football, to always try to score, not just trying to get a result and when you score a goal, the game is finished."
