petrol price, economic effectsThere seems to be no end in sight in the lingering scarcity of petrol in Kaduna state especially in the state capital, as many filling stations hoard their products in the day but dispense at exorbitant prices at night.

This has forced many motorists to either park their vehicles at home while those willing to bear the brunt are subjected to buying the product for a price as high as N250 per litre from black marketers.

Our correspondent who is monitoring the situation in the state capital reports that officials of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) have uncovered some of the petrol station owners hoarding petrol or selling above approved pump price, and subsequently forced them to sell at the N145 per litre approved pump price.

The agency during a routine inspection of some petrol stations in the state capital also sanctioned some marketers found to be under dispensing the product to members of the public.

This is despite reassurances from the Kaduna Refinery two weeks ago that it has commenced production of PMS and will soon flood the market wita enough products.

Speaking on the situation, the DPR Operations Controller Kaduna Zonal office, Isa Tafida, who led the inspection of the petrol stations, describes the action of the marketers as unpatriotic and inhuman.

He vowed to sanction any marketer caught in an unwholesome act that will worsen the suffering of innocent citizens.

Some motorists, who lamented the hardship they are facing as a result of the petrol scarcity, commend DPR officials for the close monitoring of petrol stations and ensuring that the limited products are made available to the public.
