Croatia will be hoping to cause an upset after qualifying for their first ever World Cup final, setting up a tie against one time winners France at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Zlatko Dalić's side have upset the odds this summer, with their biggest win since the group stages coming in their semi final win over England, coming from a goal down before winning the game in extra time.

Here's how what is commonly being referred to as Croatia's second golden generation could look on Sunday.

1. GK: Danijel Subašić

Goalkeeper Danijel Subašić will be forgiven for eyeing more than just a World Cup winners' medal on Sunday.

FIFA's infamous Golden Glove award often goes the the competition's winning goalkeeper, and his penalty shootout heroics against Denmark and Russia earlier in the tournament could be enough to give Subašić the coveted trophy.

2. RB: Šime Vrsaljko

Šime Vrsaljko has featured in five of Croatia's six matches this summer, even claiming an assist on their route to the final.

The 26-year-old has proved himself to be an indispensable part of the national team throughout the competition, and he will likely be part of an unchanged back four against France on Sunday.

3. CB: Domagoj Vida

Defender Domagoj Vida is one of a number of Croatia players who have risen to stardom during the World Cup this summer.

Following an impressive campaign in Turkey with Beşiktaş, Vida has gone on to make five appearances during the competition and even scored in their quarter final win over host nation Russia.

4. CB: Dejan Lovren

Partnering Vida in the heart of defence will be Liverpool's Dejan Lovren. The 29-year-old has stepped up a gear this summer and was even compared with World Cup winning centre back Jérôme Boateng by the newly appointed Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovač.

Lovren has featured in all six of Croatia's matches at the World Cup this summer.

5. LB: Ivan Strinić

The oldest of Croatia's experienced defence is expected to be Ivan Strinić, who has featured in all but one of their games at the World Cup.

Strinić, along with full back Vrsaljko, caused England all sorts of problems throughout the semi final, with both defenders eager to push up the pitch and get crosses into the box - something with Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernández will have to be aware of.

6. DM: Marcelo Brozović

Versatile midfielder Marcelo Brozović will act as the linchpin for Croatia on Sunday, but the 25-year-old will frequently rotate with other players to keep France on their toes at the Luzhniki Stadium.

The Inter star has fought his way into Croatia's starting lineup with his performances this summer, keeping the likes of Milan Badelj and Mateo Kovačić on the sidelines.

7. CM: Luka Modrić

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić is the shining jewel in Croatia's crown, with everything good about Zlatko Dalić's side seemingly coming through the 32-year-old.

But Modrić will have his hands full when he faces off against France's athletic and physical midfield, especially as Les Bleus have had an extra day to prepare for the final.

8. CM: Ivan Rakitić

Ivan Rakitić may be somewhat overshadowed by his partner in the centre of midfield for Croatia, but the 30-year-old is just as important for them as the aforementioned Modrić.

The Barcelona star can split a defence with killer passes if he is afforded too much time and space on the ball, while his delivery from set pieces has already proved to be a valuable asset for Croatia at the World Cup.

9. RW: Ante Rebić

Feisty winger Ante Rebić has become one of the stars of the World Cup this summer, which is made all the more surprising given that he had only featured 12 times throughout his career for Croatia before the start of the year.

The 24-year-old can play in a number of positions across the front three, and Rebić could prove to be Croatia's 'go to' forward if they are in need of something special on Sunday.

10. LW: Ivan Perišić

All eyes were on Inter winger Ivan Perišić ahead of the World Cup this summer, and the 29-year-old hasn't disappointed fans this summer.

Despite his incredible quality, Perišić still remains as one of the most underrated players in European football, but adding to his two-goal haul at the World Cup on Sunday could go some way to dispelling his undervalued brilliance.

11. ST: Mario Mandžukić

Juventus striker Mario Mandžukić broke English hearts by scoring an extra time winner which secured Croatia their first ever place at a World Cup final.

Most worryingly for opponents France is that it is that kind of momentum which will spur the 32-year-old on even more at the Luzhniki Stadium. Mandžukić will likely occupy a similar role to that of Les Bleus target man Olivier Giroud.
