New Southampton signing Jeremy Pied says there is no reason the Saints cannot emulate Leicester City and challenge for the Premier League title.
Claude Puel's side take on Manchester United on Friday evening after opening their season with a draw against Watford.
And Pied believes that in contrast to Ligue 1, where he most recently played for Nice, a number of clubs have the opportunity to make a push for the English championship.
"In Ligue 1, although there are many good teams, there is only one that really emerges [in the end] with PSG," he told Goal.
"It’s clear that the teams wait to play against Paris for the biggest game of the year. Here, there are a lot of teams like PSG.
"What I understand is that it can happen anything here at any time. There is always a lot of adventures in the championship and during matches. Each team believes in victory.
"I do not have any [favourite for the title]. Southampton is my favourite. It's difficult to say but when you see what happened last year with Leicester, everyone can believe.
"It certainly does not happen every year, but many teams can claim top spot.
"Why not? If we play, it's to win every game so in our mind we must imagine that. It will be hard, of course; in addition, we have the Europa League to play. We'll have to be [strong] on all fronts."
Pied says he has been impressed by the calibre of the young players coming through Southampton's famed academy since his arrival.
"There really is quality," he added. "I don't want to talk about one more than another, I will let people discover them. Southampton have a lot of potential.
"There is a very good academy here - many players came through it, such as [Gareth] Bale, [Adam] Lallana, [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain and many others. There are many resources in place to develop players able to play in the Premier League."
