Zone 9 Police Command in Umuahia, Abia State yesterday said it recovered five more Card Readers and two laptops, allegedly belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). An authoritative source from the zonal command headquarters at Ehimiri Housing Estate confirmed the recovery to newsmen, stating that the materials were found in "a hidden location" in Amoba Housing Estate, Old Umuahia, ‘"following a tip-off". Reacting to the incident, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Selina Oko, said she was informed about the recovery on phone by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for the zone, Mr Usman Gwary. Oko said: "The AIG called me this morning to come and inspect some materials that were recovered but I told him that I was not in Umuahia. "I told him that I would come to inspect them when I return," Oko told newsmen on phone. The items, it was gathered, were recovered from a location close to the residence of an INEC official now in police custody for allegedly attempting to smuggle out seven Card Readers and result sheets from INEC office in Umuahia on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Two suspects, Nwabuko and Ejiofor, working in INEC were said to have been arrested for allegedly trying to remove the electoral materials from the commission. Six other officials of the commission were invited for interrogated by the police.
