Five persons were yesterday arrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force, in Oyo State on allegations of kidnapping.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Katsina, who disclosed this stated the kidnappers originally migrated from Benin Republic then moved to Kwara before finally settling in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The kidnappers den was located in a deserted hotel at Oyagbe area in Oyo town.
The Commissioner of Police stated that, “Today we are happy to announce that a ground breaking discovery was made yet again and this time in Oyo town where some wicked individuals kidnapped a fellow human for ransom”.
Katsina stated one of the arrested persons was identified as the hotelier who claimed ignorance on the activities of the kidnappers. He stated that the suspects approached him for a three-room accommodation for two weeks and paid a deposit of N5,000.
During the raid, a victim identified as Husseni Sani was rescued. Sani, a cattle rearer from Ikoyi Ile in Kajola Local Government Area, was kidnapped at Ogbomoso and fed solely on rice for 14 days.
As stated by Sani, his kidnappers made a demand of N1 million with a threat that he and his elder brother will be killed if the money was not paid.
Meanwhile, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, thanked the police and other security agencies for their swift action in arresting the suspects.
He also encouraged residents to always inform the police when they suspect suspicious movements in their environment as it is their duty as individuals.
