13 Confusing Photos… You Will Have to Look More Than Once

Few automotive sounds can be as recognizable as a naturally-aspirated AMG-manufactured V8 engine, however, did the German automaker keep the iconic growl alive in the new, smaller twin-turbocharged powerplant?

If you’re looking for the simpler answer, then it’s yes, it did; Mercedes actually constructed an exquisite engine for the C63 AMG, in spite of downsizing it to meet legal requirements. Its 4.0-litre displacement, aided by two turbochargers, boasts 510 PS and 700 Nm of torque, 23 PS and 100 Nm more than the outgoing 6.3-litre naturally aspirated unit.

Its low, aggressive growl remains specific to the model as well, although the purists could easily distinguish both V8 from one another. The new C63 lost some rev-band, in the process, however, remains a pretty revvy machine; its sound might not be as metallic and vicious compared to its naturally aspirated counterpart, however, the uploader says that the footage doesn’t pay justice to the engine’s deep grunt.

However, before we get ahead of ourselves and praise the new unit way too much, you have to know that the older model didn’t come with an active exhaust system as an option, while the new C63S was equipped with the optional AMG Performance exhaust option.
