The Presidency on Tuesday downplayed the alliance between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and leaders of pan-Yoruba social-political organization, Afenifere.
Obasanjo during a private visit to Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, on Monday, had appealed to the group on the need to work together to repair Nigeria in 2019.
He called on the group to ensure that they played vital roles in Nigeria’s rebirth, through the 2019 general election.
However, reacting to the visit the Senior Special Assisitant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a chat with Daily Independent, challenged both Obasanjo and Afenifere to come out with their voters and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming election to see if they can defeat him.
“I don’t see anything coming out of the alliance. The two of them, which party do they represent? If they have voters’ card, let’s meet at the polling station,” he said.
