President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has been given his certificate of return by the Chairman, Independent Nigeria Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega.
In a ceremony that was held on Wednesday at the International Conference Center, Abuja, General Buhari donning an overflowing navy blue attire was accompanied by the Vice-President-elect, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, their wives and other members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) including its national leader, Bola Tinubu, Governors of Ogun, Oyo, Imo, Rivers and Osun states.
Buhari, in an address after receiving the certificate, thanked the INEC chairman for conducting a peaceful and credible election. He also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for taking his defeat at the polls in good faith.
Buhari pulled a total of 15,424,921 votes to defeat incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) who got 12,853,162 votes.
INEC officially declared the 72-year-old general the winner of the presidential election early on Wednesday morning.
President Goodluck Jonathan had earlier congratulated Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the polls. Jonathan called Buhari on phone at exactly 5.15pm on Tuesday shortly after it became clear that he has lost the election.
