A presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ahmed Makarfi has urged the police to investigate the raid on the home of a Niger Delta leader Edwin Clark.
Clark’s home in Abuja was on Tuesday raided by some officers of the Nigerian Police Force.
As stated by the officers, they got a tip that there are arms and ammunition in Clark’s home.
Although the police have detained the officers involved, Makarfi in a statement by his media aide Mukthar Sirajo called for a more thorough probe into the matter.
“Senator Makarfi identifies and sympathizes with Elder Clark over this assault on his privacy as well as calls on Nigerians to be vigilant and resist attempts at constricting our democratic space and fundamental human rights, (mis)using agencies of the state,” the statement read.
“Even though the Police authorities have sought to distance themselves from this show of shame, Senator Makarfi urges that they go beyond ordinary disclaimer by instituting a genuine investigation into this with a view to unraveling the sordid act as well as bringing perpetrators to justice.”
