Quique Sanchez Flores has revealed the reason behind his Watford exit is because he and the board do not share the same opinion of the club’s season.
It was confirmed on Friday that Flores will leave the club at the end of his contract in June, while Goal understands that former Napoli and Inter boss Walter Mazzarri is set to take charge on a three-year deal.
Flores, who arrived at Watford last June, has comfortably guided the club to safety in their first season back in the Premier League, but the 51-year-old suggests the club’s owners have not been completely satisfied with the campaign.
“Yesterday I had a meeting of the club to review the season, after that I confirm the club and I do not have the same point of view about the season,” Flores said at his press conference on Friday.
“So we don’t have the necessary conditions to activate the clause to renew the contract. My contract finishes at the end of June, then I’ll leave Watford, this is the consequence.
“I’m very grateful to the players, amazing favour and feeling from the fans, I love the Watford fans, I felt completely happy this year, I’ve enjoyed the experience. We have a lot of reasons to be happy because we enjoyed this amazing journey. A lot of good memories from this season.”
