A 20-year-old rape victim identified as, Hope Cheston, has been awarded a $1 billion in a historic rape suit which occured six years ago.
Washington Post reported that in 2012, Cheston was raped by a security guard Brandon Lamar Zachary, 22.
Zachary was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison but the security company, Crimes Prevention Agency where he worked never contacted the rape victim.
This forced Cheston to file a lawsuit against the Crime Prevention Agency, jurors have awarded her a shocking amount of $1 billion.
She said the jurors then hugged her and told her afterwards that, βYouβre worth something.
βIt was a shocking moment; it was a beautiful moment,β she said, βIt showed human kindness in its purest form.β
Even her attorney, Chris Stewart, expressed shock at the huge reward his client received.
He said:
βWhat that number stands for is the most important thing.
We donβt care what we end up finally recovering from this company. We know they donβt have $1 billion. But itβs what 12 people in the state of Georgia said a victim of rape is worth that echoes louder.
We already got our victory.β
