Esther Modupe has been arrested for allegedly flogging her step-son which inadvertently led to his losing an eye.
As stated by Punch, the 15-year-old boy, Bolu was awaiting the University of Lagos post-UTME but cannot see with his left eye due to the beating he got from his step-mum.
Based on what was gathered, Lekan Williams the father of the partially blind boy had separated from the mother before he married Esther three years ago. Esther was said to still be childless.
It was reported that on Tuesday, July 16, the family had gone to church while the key was left with Bolu but when they returned, he wasn't back. The lateness angered his step mother who flogged him but unfortunately, the cane hit his eye. It was however not considered serious until the situation deteriorated and he got partially blind.
A neighbour said the situation was unfortunate as Esther took care of her step children like they were hers.
“Bolu’s mother packed out of this house about 10 years ago. She knew she had two children, but she abandoned them. The man was forced to marry a second wife about three years ago. That was when Esther started living here.
“The woman worked as a private school teacher, and she was very nice to Bolu and his younger brother. The two also liked her, and you will not even know they were not her children. But it turned out that on that day that she was angry and flogged the boy. The cane hit him in the eye.
“They initially thought it was a small thing. But it turned out to be a big problem. The mother then showed up and took him away.”
It was reported that Bolu's mother came to take her son away after it was medically confirmed that Bolu had gone blind.
