Real Madrid players have launched a battle to dethrone France’s Dimitri Payet from top lot in the UEFA Player barometer at EURO 2016.

Wales star Gareth Bale has moved up to second place in the official rankings of player performances in France this month after hitting a goal in each of his side’s three group-stage to inspire the Dragons into the knockout stage.

Bale’s performances saw him leapfrog Germany midfielder Toni Kroos, who has now been in the top three for over a week.

Their Madrid colleague Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest-ranked fast riser from the final matches of the first round after hitting two goals to recuse a 3-3 draw that saw Portugal limp out of their group.

Spain’s Alvaro Morata, who has just sealed a return to Madrid from Juventus, is also contention after his three goals have the striker leading the race for the golden boot as he hit them in less minutes than it took Bale.

Another to rise through the rankings over the past few days has been Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne and Bale’s international team-mate Aaron Ramsey, who has now created two goals to make him the only player at the tournament to have registered more than a single assist.

The Player Barometer values different data points in direct correlation to each player's position and weights performances in direct relation to the strength of the opposition.
