Massadio Haidara says that Newcastle United’s result at Chelsea in the FA Cup was a “harsh result”.
Chelsea ran out 3-0 winners at Stamford Bridge to ensure their strong record in the capital was maintained against the Magpies.
The result also meant that Newcastle’s woeful FA Cup record during the Mike Ashley era continued as United ended their interest in the competition at the last 32 stage.
After the game Haidara told NUFC TV: “We are really disappointed by the result. I think the result was harsh.
“We did well until the 31st minute and pressed well. We had a couple of chances and didn’t take them.
“Against teams like this if you don’t score it is very hard to carry on after that because they have the quality to score goals.
“But we can be disappointed with the result.”
Looking back on Newcastle’s positive first half spell though, Haidara said: “We had a couple of chances with Jonjo and Dwight.
“We didn’t score and if we did score the game could be different. We don’t know now (what would have happened) but it was hard at the end.
“We could see the difference between the two halves, the first half was really good and in the second half we had less chances and Chelsea pushed higher and made it difficult for us.”
The game was Haidara’s first run out of the campaign after an injury ravaged couple of years.
He added: “I am happy to play my first 90 minutes with the first team. I am disappointed with the result afterwards.”
