Crucial to that, of course, has been Ronaldo, whose perfect last 12 months has seen him make history for the umpteenth time of his career.
On Sunday, the 31-year-old became the first player to win the Champions League, European Championship, Club World Cup and the Ballon d'Or in the same year.

With 16 goals in 12 Champions League games, he was integral to Madrid winning an 11th European crown. That summer, he led Portugal to the Euro 2016 final with his definitive displays, despite being taken off injured in the first-half.
